Enterprise Car Hire
Enterprise Car Hire - History
Enterprise was formed in St Louis, USA, in 1957 with the name Executive Leasing, by Jack Taylor, with a seven-vehicle fleet for leasing.
Initially the company entered the car rental business in 1962 after initially operating in long term leasing.
Don Holtzman, an assistant of Jack Taylor, was given responsibility for car rental and discovered a niche in the market. Insurance companies had a need for rental cars for clients whose cars had been damaged or stolen. They decided to concentrate on this market and offered more competitive rates than the more established companies.
In 1969 Jack Taylor renamed the company Enterprise Leasing Company in honour of the U.S.S Enterprise aircraft carrier on which he served in World War 2. In this year the company also expanded from St.Louis to opening offices in Georgia, Florida and Texas.
Enterprise Car Hire - Present Time 2007
Enterprise has rapidly expanded in international markets, and has more than 63,000 rental vehicles in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany.
Enterprise Car Hire has also been able to withstand fluctuations in the holiday and business travel car rental markets better than competition, thanks to the company’s large market share in the replacement insurance market niche.
Enterprise Car Hire acquired Vanguard in 2007, operator of Alamo and National Car Rental companies. It is understood this ownership only relates to Vanguard’s operation in north America.
